Yanaka Residents Discover 5 Fun Runs and Charity Walks Through August
Yanaka residents have multiple group exercise options lined up through August with starts at familiar neighborhood spots.
How we reported this

Three fun runs and two charity walks will open registration this week for events that begin on July 15 along Kototoi Street in Yanaka.
Summer brings longer daylight hours that allow early morning group sessions before the heat builds, and local organizers have added dates to meet demand from residents who prefer structured outdoor activity over solo gym time.
The Yanaka Community Fitness Group will host the first 5-kilometer fun run on July 15 starting at 6:30 a.m. from the entrance to Yanaka Ginza shopping street, with the route turning north past Nezu Shrine and finishing near the old tram tracks on Shinobazu-dori. A separate charity walk on July 22 organized by the Yanaka Historical Preservation Society starts at the same Ginza street corner and covers 4 kilometers through the cemetery grounds with stops at marked historical sites.
Scheduled Events
Additional dates include an August 3 evening 3-kilometer walk that begins at Sendagi Station and loops through the back alleys behind the former Tokyo University campus annex, plus a longer 8-kilometer fun run on August 10 that starts at the Yanaka Fire Station and heads toward Uguisudani. All events require participants to wear numbered bibs supplied on site and follow marshals stationed at each intersection.
Last year the same July fun run drew 280 registered participants who raised 420,000 yen for local park maintenance, according to the fitness group's end-of-year report filed with the Yanaka ward office. Entry fees this season remain set at 800 yen for adults and 300 yen for students, with proceeds again directed to the same park fund.
Registration Details
Residents can sign up at the Yanaka Ginza community notice board between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on weekdays or through the fitness group's online form that accepts payment by convenience store transfer. Those who register by July 10 receive a free water bottle and a printed route map that marks the exact locations of water stations and first-aid points along Kototoi Street.
Anyone new to group events should arrive fifteen minutes early to receive a quick safety briefing from the volunteer coordinators stationed at the starting line.
