Cycling routes safe for families and beginners expand across Odaiba waterfront
New marked paths in Odaiba Seaside Park and Shiokaze Park give parents and first-time riders protected lanes away from car traffic.

Tokyo Metropolitan Government crews finished painting dedicated family cycling lanes on July 1 along the inner loop of Odaiba Seaside Park and the southern edge of Shiokaze Park.
More households in the Odaiba and Ariake districts now look for short, flat rides that keep children visible and away from busy roads during the summer months when school schedules free up weekday mornings. The lanes connect directly to existing rental stations without requiring riders to cross vehicle lanes at any point.
Two protected loops for new riders
The 2.8-kilometre Seaside Park loop starts at the north gate near the Fuji TV building and runs past the beach volleyball courts before returning through shaded pine rows. The Shiokaze Park circuit adds another 1.9 kilometres of waterfront path that stays within sight of the small boat harbour and ends at the playground near the public toilets. Both routes carry white dashed markings and speed-limit signs set at 15 kilometres per hour.
The Odaiba Area Management Association supplies free printed route maps at the information kiosk beside Decks Tokyo Beach every morning from 8 a.m. Families can also borrow child seats and helmets through the same desk under the summer trial program that runs until September 30.
Rental costs and usage numbers
Standard city bicycles rent for 400 yen for the first two hours and 200 yen for each additional hour at the station located 200 metres inside the Seaside Park north gate. Helmet and child-seat packages cost an extra 150 yen. City transport data released last month showed 1,240 rentals from that single station in June, up from 920 the same month in 2025.
Riders who finish before 11 a.m. avoid the strongest sun and the busiest pedestrian stretches near the shopping decks. The paths remain open until 8 p.m., with reflective markers on every curve.
Staff at the rental kiosk recommend starting at the Seaside Park north gate, riding the full loop once without children to check surface conditions, then returning with the family. Maps and helmet fittings are available on site each day.
