Perovskite Solar and the Car-Free Proposal

While solar and hydrogen dominate headlines, Japan's most reliable renewable source remains hydropower. The country generates over 87 terawatt hours from hydroelectric dams, making it the primary renewable energy source, and there are plans to upgrade 570 dams to boost capacity further. For Shimokitazawa residents, this means the grid power they draw from, including for their pop-up curry events and vintage-store lighting, has a significant renewable foundation, even as they push for more distributed, local solutions.
